Thor Hanson’s Feathers: The Evolution of a Natural Miracle →

This is a really good book review on a book I saw in Memphis and decided not to buy. I think I made the wrong decision so I am hoping it is still there when I return in a few weeks. Else, I guess Amazon will have to fill my need.

The ‘Tree-Kangaroos Come First’ hypothesis →

Tetrapod Zoology does tree kangaroos! How cool is that. I bet you don’t know what a tree kangaroo is, do you? I had never heard of them until I went to far north Queensland. They are super cool and very endangered. The article is a bit long and a bit dry in the middle unless you are really into the fossil record, but it does give some good tree kangaroo info. I just thought it was cool to see these obscure marsupials mentioned outside Australia.

The Mulefoot and other syndactyles: not all pigs are cloven-hoofed →

I love little tidbits of science or nature that take some minor thing that you have taken to be true for most of your life and prove it sometimes false. Of course pigs have cloven hooves, right? That is the main reason that they aren’t eaten in some cultures, right? Well, mostly right, except when it is not as there are breeds of pig with only a single hoof. So if you are Jewish, can you eat this kind of pig or is that breaking the spirit of the law?
